First Holy Communion Preparation & Requirements

If you would like your child to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and
Communion, please register your child for Religious Education classes by July 31st.

In order to be eligible for reception of these Sacraments…

  • your child must be baptized* and at least 7 years-old

  • the Religious Education office must receive proof of the child’s baptism at registration.​

    • if baptized elsewhere, obtain a copy of the Baptismal Certificate.

    • if baptized at Blessed Sacrament you must still provide a copy of the baptismal certificate.

    • If you do not have the certificate, please contact the baptismal church and request a copy. If you have difficulty locating an address or phone number, please contact the diocese of which the parish pertains to.

*If they were not baptized Catholic, your child is required to attend a 2-year program: OCIA - adapted for children (see below).

 

  • must be currently enrolled and attending Religious Education classes

  • should be regularly attending weekend Mass

  • your child must attend Monday evening classes (Jan-March).

  • First Communion interview must also be completed before First Communion is received

 
OCIA: Adapted for Children (2-year program):

  • Children 7 years and older who have not been baptized or have been baptized in another religion, must attend regular Religious Education classes for one year prior to registering/attending the OCIA classes.
